Closing bell: Sensex sinks nearly 900 points, Nifty slips below 22,900 as banks drag

Indian equity benchmarks ended sharply lower on Monday as private banks, Infosys and other heavyweights weighed on sentiment. PSU banks bucked the trend on strong earnings, while Yes Bank, UltraTech Cement and select stocks remained under pressure.
